ATC rawalpindi verdict in SMBB case 5 accused freed Gen Musharaff and Punjab Police sentenced

Musharraf declared absconder, five acquitted and two sentenced in Benazir murder case


RAWALPINDI: Five accused persons in the Benazir Bhutto murder case were exonerated of all charges on Thursday as the Anti-Terrorism Court hearing the case for over nine years announced its verdict.
ATC Judge Asghar Khan announced the verdict in court, where former Rawalpindi CPO Saud Aziz and former Rawal Town SP Khurram Shahzad — suspects out on bail — were also present.
Aziz and Shahzad were sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to pay a fine of Rs0.5 million each. 
Moreover, the ATC declared Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf an absconder and ordered confiscation of his properties. 
The court in its verdict, acquitted arrested suspects Rafaqat, Hasnain, Rashid Ahmed, Sher Zaman and Aitzaz Shah.
The statements of 67 witnesses out of 141 were recorded during the course of proceedings, while the rest were termed unimportant.
